RIP Nike Golf

Nike announced yesterday that they are getting out of the golf equipment business and planning to focus on apparel and footwear only in their golf line. Now there are many articles chronicling the details behind this huge announcement or at least the few details that we know. In a nutshell, Nike will no longer be making golf equipment, instead just clothing and shoes, Tiger, Rory and the rest of their staff will now have to find new equipment to play and the entire golf industry seems somewhat speechless. This is huge news for a number of reasons in the golf business but in a way I am not shocked as it appears as though Nike is cutting its losses in...

Olympic Golf

Golf will be a part of the 2016 Olympics in Rio for the first time in 112 years. Unfortunately the talk surrounding this long awaited return is not about the course or who is the favorite or the golfers that are attending the games. It is mainly about those who have chosen not to attend the Olympics despite qualifying to represent their country. This is a sad time for golf as a sport as this was a huge opportunity for the game to be put on the world stage and have the worlds best proudly represent their country and the game of golf. Golf struggles in popularity due to its expense, the stereotype of it being an exclusive sport, or...

Pick Up The Pace

As we settle in to watch the worlds best on a Sunday afternoon it is important to remember that there are some things they do that we should not emulate. Their smooth, powerful swings and unmatched short game is definitely worth trying to replicate for obvious reasons. However, their pre-shot routine and methodical play is not always something to mimic. Is it important to have a pre-shot routine and rhythm? Of course, I am not trying to deter you from that but too often have I seen players of all skill levels taking an extraordinary amount of time over every shot on a Saturday morning match with their buddies. Why is this a problem? Because these golfers are poster boys...

Golf Courses: Fore The People

I read an article very recently written on behalf of a local golf course and they made mention of tax receipts being issued for donations made to the golf course. This got me wondering how many donations this course or any course for that matter, receives on a yearly basis. My assumption is not enough or what is deserved. I haven't done any research to find out an exact answer to this so I could be very wrong but based on what I know golf courses do for communities, charity, and the environment I believe for the large part they go under-appreciated and undervalued. A successful, thriving community needs to provide amenities to its residents. A golf course is a...

Playing the Proper Tees

When you arrive at a golf course to spend the next four hours of your day, you are there to have fun and enjoy yourself, right? So why is it that I see 15-20 handicaps head to the first tee and tee it up between the Black tees to play the course at its absolute longest possible yardage. This is simply setting yourself up for a long day of fairway woods, hybrids and long irons into the green and ultimately, a lot of big numbers on that scorecard and a poor overall experience of the course. This is a problem that can be solved quite easily. Play the proper set of tees for your golf game! For this article I...
